 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 14, 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Yassamin Ansari for election to the U.S. Congress as the Representative from Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. Ansari is a member of the Phoenix City Council and a former advisor to UN Secretaries General Ban Ki-moon and António Guterres.

“Yassamin is already a proven leader. She has a track record of developing smart, practical solutions on the issues that matter most and working tirelessly to achieve results. She’s done it at the United Nations as a leader on climate action, and she’s done it as a member of the Phoenix City Council. She will enter Congress with a rare ability to get things done on Day 1, and that’s why we’re proud to endorse her,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “Arizonans know the urgency of addressing our climate crisis, and Yassamin’s experience advising the Paris Climate Agreement and leading Phoenix’s Climate Action Plan is unmatched. We need her fighting for change in Washington.”

Yassamin Ansari was born and raised in Arizona as the daughter of Iranian immigrants. She is a member of the Phoenix City Council who completed a term as Vice Mayor of Phoenix at the end of 2023. Ansari was first elected to the City Council in 2020, becoming the youngest woman to serve on the Council and the first Iranian American elected to political office in Arizona. Ansari began her career as an advisor to the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, contributing to the emergence of the Paris Climate Agreement. Later, she worked with California Governor Jerry Brown as a deputy policy director for the Global Climate Action Summit and served as a senior policy advisor to current UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Ansari joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Sen. Bob Casey (PA-Sen), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (WI-Sen), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-Sen), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-Sen), Rep. Colin Allred (TX-Sen), Rep.
