Yassamin Ansari is serving her first term in Congress, representing Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Natural Resources Committee. Previously, she was a member of the Phoenix City Council and completed a term as Vice Mayor of Phoenix at the end of 2023. Yassamin was first elected to the City Council in 2020, becoming the youngest woman to serve on the Council and the first Iranian American elected to political office in Arizona. She began her career as an advisor to the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and later served as a senior policy advisor to UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
