 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - February 4, 2019

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Representative Xochitl Torres Small for re-election. As a member of the Homeland Security and Armed Services committees, Representative Torres Small is running to represent the people of southern New Mexico for a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“From the day she entered Congress, Xochitl Torres Small has been absolutely inspiring – showing her colleagues on both sides of the aisle how to get things done. Very few Members of Congress match her level of dedication in terms of ensuring that the interests and the values of her constituents are front and center in Capitol Hill debates,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “That commitment shines through most of all in her work on immigration. Torres Small understands that in the 21st Century we live in an interconnected world and that serious issues – like border security and fair immigration – need big, integrated solutions. We appreciate her leadership and that’s why we want to do everything we can to help her win re-election.”

"It is a privilege to receive the endorsement of Foreign Policy for America," said Representative Torres Small. "Growing up along the border, I know first hand that a secure border and a fair immigration system are essential to cultivating a vibrant and economically prosperous border community. This is why I will remain committed to working with anyone to develop community driven solutions to fix our broken border security and immigration system and maintain America's standing as a reliable and strong diplomatic partner."

After graduating from Georgetown University in three years, Representative Torres Small returned to New Mexico as a field representative for Senator Tom Udall, working to improve communications technology, create better job opportunities, and conserve the water in rural New Mexico. She then went to law school and eventually spent time as a federal law clerk and a water rights attorney. As a first term Member of Congress serving on the Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, Torres Small has made issues like election security, cybersecurity, and border security a priority. She also serves as a co-chair of the House Democratic Caucus National Security Task Force.

Torres Small is one of Foreign Policy for America Action Network’s two House endorsements announced today, along with Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14). The two join incumbent House Members already endorsed by Foreign Policy for America Action Network: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-39), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Rep.
