Statement in Support of Bridget Brink
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 9, 2026
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America is proud to support Ambassador Bridget Brink in her campaign to represent Michigan’s 7th district in Congress. Bridget is exactly the kind of leader we need today to fight for Michigan communities and to check President Trump’s reckless, costly policies.
We are appalled by recent attacks on her tenure as a nonpartisan career diplomat by her political opponent. He should know better.
As a lifelong public servant, Amb. Brink has dedicated her career to serving our country, most recently as U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine. For nearly 30 years, she served under both Democratic and Republican presidents, protecting Americans overseas and advancing our interests. In 2025, she resigned in protest of President Trump’s policies.
Since 2018, Foreign Policy for America has endorsed candidates who reject Donald Trump’s cynical and extreme policies and support principled U.S. engagement in the world. Our endorsed candidates include military veterans, intelligence officials, defense civilians, aid workers, and diplomats — extraordinary leaders who have served our country with honor under presidents of both political parties.
Here’s what others are saying:
Phil Gordon, former National Security Advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris: “I worked closely with Bridget Brink in the Clinton, Obama, and Biden Administrations. The smear campaign against her is shameful and what's wrong with politics. As our Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget led with integrity and courage in a war zone. She is what we need in Congress.”
Wendy Sherman, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs under President Obama and Deputy Secretary of State under President Biden: “Bridget Brink spent her entire life fighting for freedom and democracy. From being on the ground in young democracies after the fall of the Iron Curtain, to serving on President Obama’s National Security Council, to working for three years under Putin’s attacks in Ukraine as the first American woman to lead an Embassy in a war zone, Ambassador Brink’s U.S. Foreign Service career has centered on protecting democracy, fighting for what's right, and holding the powerful, accountable.
When President Trump appeased Putin and pressured our democratic partner, Ukraine, Ambassador Brink courageously left her entire career behind to resign in protest, speak the truth about Trump, and run to defeat Tom Barrett.
The political opponents desperately attempting to smear Ambassador Brink’s lifetime of service to our country to score political points are just plain wrong. They don’t know what it’s like to work under constant attacks from Vladimir Putin and fight daily battles with Donald Trump and his allies.
With the damage Donald Trump is inflicting at home and abroad, so much is at stake in this year’s mid-term elections. Bridget Brink’s toughness, integrity, and experience is exactly what we need in Congress right now.”
