Foreign Policy for America Endorses Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) for Re-election
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 24, 2023
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Representative Abigail Spanberger for re-election to the U.S. Congress as the Representative from Virginia's 7th Congressional District. Rep. Spanberger is the incumbent candidate in VA-07 and was first elected to represent the district in 2018.
"Abigail is a public servant through and through. She shows that every day in the way she goes to work and delivers for her constituents,” said Andrew Albertson, executive director of Foreign Policy for America. “As a federal law enforcement officer, a CIA case officer, and now a three-term Member of Congress, Abigail has devoted her entire life to serving our country and her community. Working on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and now the Intelligence Committee, she has been a powerful champion for smart, principled foreign policy that keeps American families safe and out of conflicts. We’re grateful for her extraordinary leadership and proud to endorse her once again.”
Prior to entering Congress, Rep. Spanberger served as a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service before transitioning to work as a case officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. After leaving federal service in 2014, Rep. Spanberger joined the private sector where she worked in the higher education industry. Now in her third term, Rep. Spanberger is working to enhance investments in cybersecurity and critical technologies, increase support for the diplomatic, intelligence, and armed forces communities, and reform the United States’ immigration and asylum policies. Rep. Spanberger serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where she is a Member of the National Intelligence Enterprise and Defense Intelligence & Overhead Architecture Subcommittees. She also serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, where she holds the position of Ranking Member in the Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology Subcommittee.
Rep. Spanberger is the fourth candidate FP4A has endorsed in the 2024 election cycle, joining House candidate Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07) and Senate candidates Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI) and Rep. Colin Allred (TX). Our endorsed candidates are chosen because of their consistent leadership in favor of diplomacy-first foreign policy.
Foreign Policy for America is a nonpartisan advocacy organization working to strengthen support for principled American engagement in the world. We support policies that keep Americans safe and out of conflicts, advance prosperity for all, and are true to our country’s highest values.
