Foreign Policy for America Endorses Luke Bronin for CT-01
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 27, 2026
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Luke Bronin for election to Congress as the next Representative from Connecticut's 1st Congressional District.
"Luke Bronin has spent his career delivering concrete results, from helping to design the Treasury sanctions that brought Iran to the negotiating table under President Obama to steering Hartford successfully through a fiscal crisis as mayor," said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. "He understands that, to lower costs for Americans, we need new leadership in Washington that will finally put an end to endless wars in the Middle East. We’re proud to support Luke’s campaign and look forward to working with him in Congress."
"I am honored to earn the endorsement of Foreign Policy for America. This President is making our country and our world less safe, starting unnecessary trade wars and reckless wars, picking fights with allies, cozying up to authoritarians, and ignoring the vital diplomatic work that is at the heart of international stability,” said Luke Bronin. “When we build a movement to take back the House, and the Senate, and eventually the White House, we need to rebuild our alliances and restore the United States as a force for stability, responsibility, and human freedom and dignity. And there’s a direct connection between a responsible foreign policy and the financial pressures families are feeling at home, because from trade wars with Canada to the war in Iran, Trump’s recklessness is raising costs for American families every day.”
Luke Bronin is a former two-term Mayor of Hartford, a U.S. Navy Reserve intelligence officer, and a former senior Obama administration national security official. A Rhodes Scholar with a BA and JD from Yale, Bronin deployed to Afghanistan in 2010–2011 with the military's anti-corruption task force. At the Treasury Department, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, where he led the team that designed and implemented the secondary sanctions program that helped drive the Iranian regime to the negotiating table. As Mayor of Hartford from 2016 to 2024, he led the city through a severe fiscal crisis, secured a restructuring of city debt with state support, and drove record investments in housing. Bronin is now challenging 14-term incumbent Rep. John Larson in the August 11 Democratic primary, after winning the state Democratic convention endorsement on May 11 — the first time in modern Connecticut history that a non-incumbent has won a Democratic nominating convention.
Bronin joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Rep. Gabe Amo (RI-01), Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03), Chris Backemeyer (NE-01), Rebecca Bennett (NJ-07), Rep.
