 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 6, 2020

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Joyce Elliott for election. An Arkansas native and 30-year public school teacher who has served in state government since 2001, Elliott is running to represent the second congressional district of Arkansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Joyce is exactly the breath of fresh air Congress needs,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “As a leader who has spent her entire life overcoming obstacles, I know she’ll be a passionate advocate for people whose voices haven’t been heard in Washington. And as a lifelong educator, she’s committed to building a world that’s safe for our next generation of Americans. Joyce brings hard won experience as a state lawmaker, and I know she will walk into Congress and lead. That’s why we’re so proud to endorse her.”

Elliott was born in Arkansas and she and her sister were the first people of color to graduate from their high school. Elliott began her career as a public high school teacher, going on to teach for 30 years. In 2001 she was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives and in 2008, she went on to serve in the state Senate. As a first-term Member of Congress, Elliott hopes to serve on the Foreign Affairs or Armed Services Committee, where she wants to focus on rebuilding our alliances, the threat of climate change, and refugee and immigration policy.
