FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 3, 2019
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Gina Ortiz Jones for election. As an Air Force veteran and former intelligence official, Ortiz Jones is running to represent southwestern Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Gina Ortiz Jones served in the U.S. Air Force with honor, and she represents the best of who we are as a country,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “The daughter of an immigrant, she enrolled in the ROTC, became an intelligence officer, and spent her career defending our security and economic interests. We need more leaders in Congress like Gina, with the courage and integrity to get our country back on track, and that’s why we’re so proud to endorse her today.”
“I'm honored to earn Foreign Policy for America's endorsement,” said Ortiz Jones. “As an Iraq War veteran who has spent my entire career focused on national security, I know that American leadership is indispensable. I'm running to serve TX-23 in Congress, and ensure our foreign policies reflect our values and strengthen us at home and abroad.”
Ortiz Jones served in the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence officer and served under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” while deployed to Iraq. After her active duty service, Ortiz Jones continued to serve the country working in national security, intelligence, and defense, spending time at U.S. Africa Command in Germany and the Defense Intelligence Agency. She later joined the Obama administration, serving as Senior Advisor for Trade Enforcement and eventually as Director for Investment at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. She resigned from USTR in June 2017 after witnessing first-hand the lack of commitment to public service of the Trump administration. If elected, Oritz Jones will bring to the House invaluable leadership on issues of national security and diplomacy.
Ortiz Jones is one of Foreign Policy for America Action Network’s four House endorsements announced today, along with Scott Cooper (NC-02), Dan Feehan (MN-01), and Sri Kulkarni (TX-22). This group joins incumbent House Members already endorsed by the organization: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07).
