Foreign Policy for America Endorses Representative Gil Cisneros (CA-39) for Re-Election
Leading Representative endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America Action Network
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - December 9, 2019
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Representative Gil Cisneros for re-election. As a member of the Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs committees, Representative Cisneros is running to represent the people of California’s 39th congressional district for a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Already in his first year in office, Representative Cisneros has emerged as a powerful voice for principled American leadership in the world,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “As a veteran himself, he’s been a strong proponent of diplomacy first foreign policy. And in stark contrast to this White House, Cisneros has worked to strengthen America’s relationships with democratic allies around the world.”
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of Foreign Policy for America and to stand with them in defense of our American values both at home and abroad,” said Cisneros. “As a Navy veteran, I strongly believe America cannot abdicate its role as a global leader and that we must continue to invest in our diplomatic corps, critical peace-keeping missions, and developmental and educational aid around the world. I’ll continue to advocate for a robust State Department and to restore American leadership in diplomacy around the world.”
Representative Cisneros was the first in his family to graduate from college, thanks to a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship, and he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for more than ten years. He deployed in both the Western Pacific and the Mediterranean as a supply and logistics officer, reaching the rank of Lt. Commander. After completing his military service, Cisneros worked as a manufacturing and shipping manager before a winning lottery ticket led him to dedicate his life to philanthropy. He and his wife founded the Gilbert and Jacki Cisneros Foundation to provide mentorship in education for underprivileged youths as well as Generation First Degree Pico Rivera, a college preparatory program designed to elevate aspiring first-generation college students. As a first term Member of Congress serving on the Armed Services Committee and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Cisneros has advocated for common sense policies to revitalize diplomacy that would lessen the burdens placed on servicemembers and their families, such as repealing the AUMF, recommitting the United States to the NATO alliance, and avoiding an unauthorized war with Iran.
Cisneros joins incumbent House Members already endorsed by Foreign Policy for America Action Network: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), as well as House candidates Scott Cooper (NC-02), Dan Feehan (MN-01), Sri Kulkarni (TX-22), and Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23).
