Public servant endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 14, 2020
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Evelyn Farkas for election. As a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense with over three decades of foreign policy and national security experience, Farkas is running to represent the people of New York’s 17th district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Those who have seen her in action at the Pentagon or on Capitol Hill know – Evelyn is exactly the kind of tested leader we need right now in Congress,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “She has the national security expertise – and the heartfelt commitment – to work tirelessly to protect the people of her district. She’s been doing it her whole career. It will take a special leader to follow in Representative Nita Lowey’s footsteps, and Evelyn will be ready to do the job on Day 1.”
A child of refugees, Farkas began her career working on human rights for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). She worked as a Senate Armed Services Committee staffer and later ran the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism. At the Pentagon, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia. She has advised former Defense Secretaries Leon Panetta, Ash Carter, and Chuck Hagel, as well as Senator Carl Levin, then Senator Hillary Clinton, and many others on issues of national security.
Farkas joins other FP4A endorsed Senate and House candidates: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-39), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Cal Cunningham (NC), Dan Feehan (MN-01), Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (PA-06), Mark Kelly (AZ), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Sri Kulkarni (TX-22), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Rep.
