Foreign Policy for America Endorses Dan Helmer (VA-10) for Election

Virginia Delegate endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 11, 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Dan Helmer for election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Helmer is a third-term member of the Virginia House of Delegates and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves.

“Dan Helmer has dedicated his life to serving our country. And this is just an extension of that commitment to serve,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “We've all seen too many politicians in Washington who care more about politics than getting things done. Dan served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He’s put his life on the line for our country. He has the experience and understanding of exactly what it takes to protect Americans and defend our interests. And he understands just how important it is that the U.S. act as a strong, principled leader on the world stage. That’s why we’re proud to endorse him.”

Dan Helmer was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019. Prior to his service in elected office, Helmer served 11 years on active duty with the U.S. Army as an intelligence and armor officer with multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He later served at U.S. Special Operations Command where he deployed a specially trained team to conduct counterterrorism and other intelligence operations across the globe. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. Helmer graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and earned an MPhil in International Relations at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship. Helmer now co-owns a management consulting firm. In Congress, Helmer will work to fully fund the State Department and USAID, peacefully manage the rise of China, support Ukraine, pursue diplomatic solutions in the Middle East, and invest in democracy and development around the world.

Helmer joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Sen. Bob Casey (PA-Sen), Sen. Tammy Baldwin (WI-Sen), Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-Sen), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-Sen), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-Sen), Rep.
