Leading Representative endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America Action Network

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 17, 2019

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Representative Andy Kim for re-election. As the first Democratic member of Congress of Korean descent and a leading voice on the House Armed Services Committee, Representative Kim is running to represent New Jersey for a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Since his election last year, Andy Kim has been a strong voice for common sense diplomatic solutions to our challenges,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “His deep national security experience – and the time he spent working alongside American military leaders in Afghanistan – is a huge asset as Congress takes up important questions of war and peace. At this difficult moment for our country, we need Andy’s leadership now more than ever, and that’s why we’re so proud to endorse him for re-election.”

“Foreign policy isn’t something that happens ‘over there’, it impacts the prices we pay at the grocery store, whether our sons and daughters are deployed overseas, and the trajectory of our country,” Kim said. “I’m proud to have the support of Foreign Policy for America Action Network because they understand what’s at stake, and they know I’m always going to fight to make sure our policies abroad benefit our families at home.”

Prior to Congress, Kim served in Afghanistan as Strategic Advisor to Generals David Petraeus and John Allen. Kim went on to serve as Director of Iraq in Obama’s National Security Council where he coordinated the crisis response to countering the rise of ISIS. As a first term Member of Congress serving on the House Armed Services Committee, Kim has played a leadership role in modernizing America’s approach to cybersecurity challenges.

Kim is one of Foreign Policy for America Action Network’s first five House endorsements, all announced today, along with Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-7), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-6), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-8). The organization previously endorsed two Senate candidates in the 2020 cycle: Senator Jeanne Shaheen, running for re-election in New Hampshire, and former ambassador Dan Baer, running for Senate in Colorado. Foreign Policy for America Action Network also endorsed Kim in his successful run for Congress in 2018.
