Foreign Policy for America Endorses Rep. Andy Kim (S-NJ) for Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 5, 2023

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Representative Andy Kim for election to the U.S. Senate. Rep. Kim is currently a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New Jersey’s 3rd District, where he is serving in his third term in Congress. Rep. Kim announced his intention to run for the U.S. Senate on September 23rd, 2023, in response to the recent indictment of incumbent Senator Bob Menendez by the U.S. Department of Justice. Fueled by broad grassroots support, he raised nearly $1 million in his first week in the race.

“The Justice Department’s allegations against Senator Menendez are shocking and frankly alarming,” said Andrew Albertson, executive director of Foreign Policy for America. “The American people should have full confidence that public officials are committed to serving their communities, not enriching themselves. At Foreign Policy for America, we have no choice but to take these allegations very seriously because they suggest that Menendez, as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee – a role with significant power to shape and oversee U.S. foreign policy and personnel – traded the power of his position for personal profit. He has every right to his day in court, but not to a U.S. Senate seat. Given the facts laid out in the indictment, and the urgent need to restore public confidence in the Congress and its ability to defend our national security and economic interests, he should resign.

“In light of these concerns, and Menendez’ refusal to resign, I'm very grateful that Congressman Andy Kim – a dedicated public servant, who time and time again has stood up to defend American interests – has once again stepped up to serve by running against him.

“Andy is a brilliant and humble leader – not the kind of person who usually runs for elected office, but the kind of leader we need far more of in Congress today. To make sure his constituents know he can’t be bought, he refuses to accept corporate PAC contributions – even when that puts him at a political disadvantage. To hold himself accountable to his neighbors who he serves every day in Washington, he sends out an annual report detailing all he’s doing for them. And because defending our national security isn’t a partisan issue, he’s worked across the aisle to strengthen our standing in the world and deliver new healthcare benefits for our military service members and veterans.

“Andy Kim would bring a new kind of leadership to the Senate, and that’s what we need right now. He has our community’s full support.”

Rep. Kim joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-Sen), Rep. Colin Allred (TX-Sen), Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07), Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Rep. Jeff Jackson (NC-14), Rep.
