Foreign Policy for America Endorses Andrei Cherny (AZ-01) for Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 7, 2023

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America announced today its endorsement of Andrei Cherny for election to the U.S. Congress as the Representative from Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. Cherny is a former U.S. Navy reserve intelligence officer, Arizona Assistant Attorney General, and co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aspiration, Inc, a sustainability-focused financial services company.

“Andrei’s career has been defined by his commitment to our democracy, our security, and our climate,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “Arizonans know better than most of us that climate change won’t wait for our government to get its act together—we need leaders with the expertise, long-term vision, and credibility to engage our international partners in addressing the challenge of our lifetime. Andrei is the right person for the job.”

“As a former Navy reserve intelligence officer, and an Arizona Assistant Attorney General working to protect our border, I know our foreign policy must deliver tangible results for Arizonans,” said Cherny. “I’m honored to receive Foreign Policy for America’s endorsement for my campaign to represent Arizona’s First Congressional District. Now more than ever, their belief in diplomacy that represents America’s tradition of principled, values-driven internationalism is essential to keeping our country safe and secure.”

Andrei Cherny first entered public service working in the Clinton White House. Following 9/11, Cherny enlisted and served eight years as a Navy reserve intelligence officer and later also served as an Arizona Assistant Attorney General where he prosecuted cases related to cross-border human and drug trafficking and financial fraud and corruption. In 2013, Cherny co-founded and spent a decade as CEO of a sustainability-focused financial services company that helped move billions of dollars away from fossil fuel projects and launched one of the world’s largest private-sector reforestation initiatives. Cherny and his family have lived in Phoenix for two decades.

Cherny joins other FP4A endorsed candidates: Sen. Tammy Baldwin (WI-Sen), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-Sen), Rep. Colin Allred (TX-Sen), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-Sen), Rep. Susan Wild (PA-07), Rep.
