Leading Representative endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America Action Network

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - June 17, 2019

WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Representative Abigail Spanberger for re-election. As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a strong proponent of bolstering cybersecurity measures, Representative Spanberger is running to represent Virginia for a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Since her election last year, Abigail Spanberger has been a powerful voice for common sense diplomatic solutions to international challenges,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “The last thing we need is to rush into another war. Time and again, Representative Spanberger has asked tough questions – rooted in her deep national security experience – and acted as a check against reckless actions of the administration.”

“It is an honor to be endorsed by Foreign Policy for America Action Network,” Spanberger said. “As a former CIA officer and a current member of Congress, I know firsthand how instrumental the development and implementation of U.S. foreign policy is to the strength of our diplomatic relationships and global economy. I am thankful for Foreign Policy for America’s commitment to effective, smart diplomacy, and I look forward to working with them to improve our nation’s standing on the world stage.”

Prior to Congress, Spanberger worked as a federal law enforcement officer working narcotics and money laundering cases with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and then went on to serve as a CIA operations officer from 2006 to 2014. As a first term Member of Congress, Spanberger serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she has pushed for cyber security reforms to counter the Chinese cyber threat and has worked to strengthen America’s infrastructure for diplomacy.

Spanberger is one of Foreign Policy for America Action Network’s first five House endorsements, all announced today, along with Rep. Jason Crow (CO-6), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-3), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), and Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-8). The organization previously endorsed two Senate candidates in the 2020 cycle: Senator Jeanne Shaheen, running for re-election in New Hampshire, and former ambassador Dan Baer, running for Senate in Colorado. Foreign Policy for America Action Network also endorsed Spanberger in her successful run for Congress in 2018.
