Marine veteran endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America Action Network
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 3, 2019
WASHINGTON D.C. - Foreign Policy for America Action Network announced today its endorsement of Scott Cooper for election. As a 20-year veteran of the Marine Corps, Cooper is running to represent Central North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Scott Cooper has dedicated his life to serving our country,” said Andrew Albertson, treasurer of Foreign Policy for America Action Network. “He led Marines in combat, and after a 20-year career Scott became a leader among his fellow veterans, supporting retired service members like himself to engage in our democracy and advocate for principled American foreign policy. Scott has the character and the passion we need in our elected leaders today, and that’s why we’re so proud to endorse him for Congress.”
“I am thrilled and honored to be associated with Foreign Policy for America, one of the most important efforts in our country that is fighting for policies that keep America safe and out of conflicts,” said Cooper. “America is a beacon to the world, and we are a safer and more secure country when our policies match our ideals, when we work with allies and engage with the world to promote those values abroad. We must see our security in the security of others and recognize that all collective efforts must be taken to avoid repeating mistakes that opened the door to war, making genuine commitments to keep the peace. That demands American leadership and engagement with the world.”
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Cooper served our country as a Marine Corps aviator for 20 years. He deployed eight times, including five tours in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. He went on to found Veterans for American Ideals—an organization that helps veterans bridge divides and be a civilizing, unifying force in our fractious political landscape. He also worked for Human Rights First as director of national security outreach, where he protected the rights and livelihoods of refugees. If elected, Cooper will bring unparalleled experience in defense and national security to the House of Representatives.
Cooper is one of Foreign Policy for America Action Network’s four House endorsements announced today, along with Dan Feehan (MN-01), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), and Sri Kulkarni (TX-22). This group joins incumbent House Members already endorsed by the organization: Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32), Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06), Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03), Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07), Rep. Max Rose (NY-11), Rep. Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11), Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07). The organization has also endorsed Senator Jeanne Shaheen, running for re-election in New Hampshire.
Foreign Policy for America is a non-profit, nonpartisan advocacy organization. We engage, connect, and support citizens to promote foreign policy that keeps Americans safe and out of conflicts, advances the prosperity of all, and is true to our country’s highest values. The Foreign Policy for America Action Network is a nonpartisan political action committee (PAC) that helps elect federal candidates who champion strong, principled American foreign policy.
