(Washington, D.C. – July 3) The Foreign Policy for America Action Network has endorsed Congressman Beto O’Rourke, candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas, the political action committee announced today.

“Beto O’Rourke has been on the front lines defending Texas families against Trump’s Muslim ban and border wall,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “He was one of the first Members of Congress to visit the family detention centers. From his earliest days on the El Paso City Council to today, he has consistently stood for common sense policies rooted in our shared values. Texans get it – they understand that we live in an interdependent world, that the diversity of our communities is a source of strength, and that together we can solve any problem. That’s why millions of Texans are flocking to support Beto for Senate, and that’s why we’re so proud to endorse him today.”

"It's an honor to be endorsed by Foreign Policy for America's members across Texas and throughout the country at a time when we must work together to get after the big, bold, important work ahead of us," said Congressman O'Rourke. "We must put diplomacy first, once again be the global leader who convenes our allies around the world, stop putting the entire weight of U.S. foreign policy on the backs of our service members and finally cancel the blank check for endless war that has taken the lives of too many of our women and men both abroad and when they return home."

O’Rourke is currently the representative for Texas’ 16th District, and serves on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and the House Armed Services Committee. In Congress, he has been a champion for diplomacy-based foreign policy and has written at length about the consequences of leaving the Paris Agreement and the Iran nuclear deal. O’Rourke has served as a Congressman representing the greater El Paso area since 2013. Prior to that, he served on the El Paso City Council from 2005-2011.

With today's announcement, O’Rourke joins Lauren Baer (FL-18), Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Jason Crow (CO-6), Rufus Gifford (MA-3), Shannon Hader (WA-8), Ken Harbaugh (OH-7), Tim Kaine (VA), Andy Kim (NJ-3), Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), Amy McGrath (KY-6), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Jacky Rosen (NV), Elissa Slotkin (MI-8), and Nancy Soderberg (FL-6) as candidates for Congress endorsed by the Foreign Policy for America Action Network in the 2018 election cycle.
