FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Washington, D.C. – June 22) The Foreign Policy for America Action Network has endorsed Tim Kaine, candidate for U.S. Senate in Virginia, the political action committee announced today.
“Tim Kaine is one of the most well-respected and effective lawmakers in the U.S. Senate,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “He has been a staunch defender against cuts to the State Department and has been a powerful voice for the values that have always made America great. With the chaos we’re seeing now from the White House, we need Tim Kaine’s leadership on national security issues now more than ever.”
“America is at its strongest when we embrace diplomacy and use our military might only as a last resort,” said Sen. Kaine (D-VA). “ As a member of both the Senate Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, I am committed to providing the best quality resources to our servicemembers and bolstering relationships with our international partners. I am proud to have the support of the Foreign Policy for America Action Network and look forward to working with them as partners in strengthening diplomacy and reducing the need for war.”
Kaine, a member of the Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, is one of the foremost foreign policy leaders in the Senate. In a Foreign Affairs article titled A New Truman Doctrine: Grand Strategy in a Hyperconnected World, Kaine argues for promoting democracy and values through multilateral institutions and training other militaries, supporting a rules-based international system, and paying more attention to north-south relations. Together with John McCain, he has led a bipartisan effort to defeat proposed cuts to foreign aid and the State Department. Kaine, the Democratic 2016 vice presidential candidate, has served as a U.S. senator from Virginia since 2013. Prior to that, he served as Governor of Virginia from 2006-2010.
With today's announcement, Kaine joins Lauren Baer (FL-18), Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Jason Crow (CO-6), Rufus Gifford (MA-3), Shannon Hader (WA-8), Ken Harbaugh (OH-7), Andy Kim (NJ-3), Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), Amy McGrath (KY-6), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Jacky Rosen (NV), Elissa Slotkin (MI-8), and Nancy Soderberg (FL-6) as candidates for Congress endorsed by the Foreign Policy for America Action Network in the 2018 election cycle.
