ENDORSEMENT: Lauren Baer (FL-18)

Foreign Policy for America Action Network Endorses Lauren Baer for Congress (FL-18)

Former State Department Senior Advisor endorsed by nonpartisan Foreign Policy for America Action Network

(Washington, D.C. – May 17) The Foreign Policy for America Action Network has endorsed Lauren Baer, candidate for Congress in Florida’s 18th district, the political action committee announced today.

“Lauren Baer’s track record at the State Department and as a litigator speaks for itself: she isn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and forge new partnerships to stand up for those that have been left behind,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director at Foreign Policy for America. “She knows from firsthand experience that policy-making is about bringing everyone’s voices to the table. Lauren will be a powerful advocate for diplomacy, and we enthusiastically support her candidacy for Congress.”
“As a former State Department official, I’m honored to have the endorsement of Foreign Policy for America. Today, more than ever, we need leaders who understand the complexity of world affairs and will fight to defend diplomacy. I look forward to working in Congress to safeguard U.S. interests and promote U.S. values around the world,” said Baer.
Baer served as a senior advisor to Secretaries Clinton and Kerry at the State Department, and also to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power. During her tenure, she helped to develop and launch the Office of Religion and Global Affairs, advocate for and later establish a Special Envoy to promote the human rights of LGBT persons, and secure $650 million in corporate commitments to aid refugees globally. As a litigator, she upheld an active pro bono practice that included taking the fight to get money out of politics all the way to the Supreme Court. Baer understands firsthand that our country’s national security requires a commitment to human rights and international law.

Baer joins Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24), Rufus Gifford (MA-3), Ken Harbaugh (OH-7), Sara Jacobs (CA-49), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Andy Kim (NJ-3), Tom Malinowski (NJ-7), Amy McGrath (KY-6), Rep. Jacky Rosen (NV), Elissa Slotkin (MI-8), and Nancy Soderberg (FL-6) as candidates for Congress endorsed by Foreign Policy for America Action Network in the 2018 election cycle.
